Parent Sessions

Being a parent can be the most joyful and the most stressful experience. There is a lot of pressure to be the perfect parent but there is no guide book to what this looks like. When things go wrong or feel difficult for our children, we can often feel to blame.

Parenting is a complex dynamic between a parent/carer/guardian and a child and will depend on lots of things:

-Parents Mood

-Parents Health

-Child's Mood

-Child' Health

-Child's Temperament

-Difficult early life experiences

-Parents own experience of being parented

-Life stressors

-Bereavement

These things can effect how we feel able to parent a child and respond to their needs.

Here at Building Steps Psychology, I can offer 1:1 parenting sessions to support you to understand you, your child, your parenting style and how this may impact you and your child. There is no right or wrong way to parent, nor is this a space for you to feel judged or 'told off'. The aims of these sessions are to support you to understand what the struggles are, why they may exist and to discuss together ways you may be able to move forward. Parents may want to use these spaces for many reasons including but not exclusive to:

-Struggling with your relationship with your child

-Parenting bringing up memories of your own childhood and how you were parented

-Difficulties managing behaviours in your child

-Parental guilt

-Parental Anxiety

-Needing support in how to respond to particularly situations/scenarios
